This project under the Department of History of Religions consisted of six scholars, one assoc. professor, two graduates and three master's students working on projects related to Islam in Norway. The project has led to a joint publication,

Hege Irene Markussen and Richard Johan Natvig (eds.), Islamer i Norge, Uppsala: Swedish Science Press, 2005.

 

Among the topics discussed are:

  • T he myth of Muslims: Media imagery of Muslim immigrants in Norway (Kjersti Rogde Næss)
  • A study of Muslim decor in hair dresser's saloons in Bergen: Theoretical and methodological implications (Hege Irene Markussen)
  • Islam as an organizing principle among Pakistanis in Oslo (Tom Irgan)
  • Somalis and Sudanese in Norway and the question of religious authenticity (Munzoul A. M. Assal)
