INFORMATION ABOUT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS
• Membership in the Nordic Society for Middle Eastern Studies is open
to researchers working on the Middle East or Islamic World at a University
or research institution in the Nordic countries. By "researcher"
is meant staff or research student involved in a project at 'hovedfag',
'Master' or similar level.
Membership is by application. Application for new members is
made by
(a) filling out the Information form
and returning it to the Secretariat either by email
or by post (see address below).
(b) paying the current year's fees. Payment information will be sent
to you after you have returned the form to the Secretariat, or you can submit the
payment directly to the Society's bank account in your respective country, please mark
the payment slip "membership" and your name if applicable.
A member must pay the membership fees. The Society will remove from
the rolls any member who after repeated notification does not pay the fees.
The Board is at liberty to specify the period of grace granted to lapsing
members. Any material benefits from membership will normally only be offered
to members having paid the fees of the current period. The fees are decided
at the General Assembly. Currently (2007-2010) they are Norw., Swe. or Danish
Kr. 400 or € 50 for the full three-year period.
All members may attend the General Assembly, which is held every
three years, normally in conjunction with a Nordic Middle East conference.
All members not removed from the rolls have the right to vote at the Assembly.
The Society also publishes various publications, directories of research, member's
bulletins, or other, which are all sent free of charge to all paid-up members.
The Society is part of the European Association for Middle Eastern
Studies (EURAMES). All members of the Society are automatically members
of Eurames, the fees being included in the Society's regular fees. All members can
receive the EURAMES Info email bulletin, normally issued every two-three weeks.
Members will be informed of any further benefit from this association.
